Wayne Academic Union signs onto AAUP statement.

At the June meeting of the Wayne State University Board of Governors Student Affairs Committee, there was a presentation of a new Center for Gender and Sexuality. A board member responded with offensive, demeaning, and transphobic language attacking the entire LGBTQIA+ community. We were deeply disappointed that neither President Wilson nor committee chair Kelly spoke against those comments.

Wayne State University AAUP-AFT Local 6075, the union of faculty and academic staff, stands in support of United Faculty of Florida (UFF) in their defense of academic freedom from attacks by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

The AAUP-AFT Local 6075 executive board has endorsed PROPOSAL P, a proposal to adopt the Detroit Charter Commission’s revisions to the Detroit City Charter. For all of us who live in Detroit, we strongly encourage a YES vote on Prop P in the August 3 city ballot elections.

We are writing to express our grave concerns regarding the restructuring and layoffs across the University in Information Technology (IT) and in Housing. The Coalition of Unions opposes any layoffs in these difficult times, objects to the manner in which decisions have been made, and is deeply worried about this approach by the Administration into the future.
