Get Involved

As state houses systematically defund public higher education, academic unions are at the vanguard of the fight for job security, fair wages, and equitable treatment for all campus employees. WAU members have long been passionate advocates for student success, high impact research, and academic freedom. There is no better way to defend the issues faculty and academic staff care about than by getting involved with your union.

If you only have a few hours

• Attend general membership meetings

• Wear or display your WAU swag on campus, at home, and on the weekend

• Follow WAU, AAUP, AFT, and AFT-Michigan on social media and amplify their pro-labor messages

• Call your elected officials and urge them to support increased funding for higher education 

If you’re ready for a more significant role

• Join the Social Justice committee

• Become a council rep 

• Apply to be a WAU Organizing Fellow

• Run for union office

If you don’t have time to give, but you’d like to support those who do

• Make a contribution to the AFT Michigan Political Action Committee (AFT-PAC)

• Make a contribution to Higher Ed Labor United (HELU) 

If you want to get involved in a different way, or don’t know what you’d like to do
