WAU Week of Action Recap

The WAU week of action was a tremendous success! Thank you to everyone who phone banked, text banked, made signs, stuffed mailers, shared support on social media, and built WAU power over the last couple of weeks. Over a hundred WAU faculty and academic staff and labor movement allies turned out on Wednesday for a rally to let the administration know that WAU needs a strong contract. Even though the Board of Governors meeting was moved online, we demonstrated that our members are engaged in the bargaining process. WAU VP Kess Ballentine and Council Representatives Deborah Gibson (College of Education) and Randon Jenkins (College of Nursing) made public comment. Although the meeting itself was plagued with technical difficulties, WAU members were united in their call for a contract that includes FWA for academic staff, emergency funds to help students facing housing insecurity, and a compensation and benefits package that make up for years of low wage increases and high inflation.
