AAUP Summer Institute Coming to WSU: August 1–4

The AAUP Summer Institute will be held on our campus from August 1 to 4. Registration is free for WAU members, and all AAUP and AFT members.

The Summer Institute is a four-day workshop series where academic activists develop their skills in organizing, bargaining, defending shared governance, and more. The Summer Institute is a space for faculty across the country to compare notes and strategies for the future of higher education.

Register now to attend the Summer Institute, welcome faculty and academic staff from around the country, and learn from one another. Select “Off-campus AAUP/AFT Collective Bargaining Chapter Member” from the dropdown menu when you register.

Because we are in contract negotiations right now, we especially urge WAU members to sign up for trainings around collective bargaining, organizing, and communications. See our recommendations here.

This year's sessions include:

  • Responding to Artificial Intelligence

  • The Redbook in Action: Defending Academic Freedom and Campus Free Speech

  • Affirmative Action: One Year after the Supreme Court's Decision

  • Encampments, Repression, and Organizing in Higher Education
